51 people have been confirmed dead, and 45 are still missing, following a massive landslide last Thursday in Naga City, Cebu.
Rolly Vasey (MV Philippines) and a small team from Cebu are in Naga City and sent us this report:
“Today we made an actual survey at Naga City landslide area as well as their evacuation centres in order know how we can get involve and be part of these survivors lives. As of this point, only the rescuers or the rescue teams are allowed to enter into the area where there are still [many] buried dead bodies.
We just move to their evacuation centres and we were able to talk to the people there and it is so heartbreaking to hear their individual stories, like the 10 year old boy, the lone survivor and the husband like that but the good thing is we were able to share the love of Jesus Christ. Indeed, such a time like this, people are attentive to hear the word of God.”
More than 4,900 people are still in evacuation centres across in the city, and while local residents and churches are collecting donations and relief goods you can help our co-workers provide essential needs that are not available in the distribution centres such as:
- Hygiene Kits
- Large plastic boxes for storage
- Sleeping mattress
- Kitchen utensils
- Clothing and other basic needs
- School Supplies & Toys
Please join us in praying for those who have lost family members and their homes.
